Demand to know what motherboard y'all are running. There are only a scattering of AM3+ boards that can survive a decent overclock on an FX 8320.

The FX-8320 already boosts to 4.0GHz with iv cores or less anyway, and so 4GHz all core shouldn't be that big of a stretch.

4ghz is about all yous tin do with a little tower cooler on the fx chips, and information technology should run that around 1.38-1.4ish volts.
If your board isn't asus 970 or another brand 990 you lot probably won't fifty-fifty reach that (does your mobo have a big heatsink on the vrm'southward near the cpu socket?). My lil bro has an fx 8310 cpu in his build and all I was able to go out of information technology regardless of cooling was 3.8ghz but his is the 970 board and non a great 1.

AMD Fx 9370 @ iv.4GHZ and 1.3875V (turbo core off)
Simply for reference. Couldn't get the voltage any lower.

Depending on Board it should be doable even with that cooler
I was able to do 4.2GHz on a 8320 with the same libation way back and then. Simply try not to pump the volts to high or the cooler won't keep up

I'm using a asrock 970 extreme3 2.0. But idk what wattage for iv.2 though.

The Hyper 212 tends to blow over VRM heatsinks, non on them. If you lot tin squeeze a downwards directed fan onto the VRM, you lot might get away with an all-core 4.0GHz overclock. I'd call your motherboard deadline for FX83xx overclocking. I always wait at this motherboard list when some asks "tin I overclock my FX8xxx". Y'all would exist surprised how many motherboards rated for eight core FX that will actually barely run one.

viii cadre FX on a 212?, all core 4 gig OC possibly. Y'all're using a 150w rated libation on an almost 200w chip OC'ed.
Cooling method is the first limiting factor on FX. Motherboard is second.

All this.^^^
However getting a 8320 to iv GHz isn't that difficult to practice, getting the system to exist happy with it running at 4 GHz can exist an issue unto itself but doable.
Cooling for an FX is paramount - If yous can't keep it cool all the residuum is useless and that means nether load , not just sitting at the desktop or in the BIOS doing nothing.
Basic settings:
CPU voltage - As depression as possible while maintaining system stability, you'll have to experiment to figure out exactly what that would be with your exact hardware since no 2 chips act akin. Y'all can try i.40v's and see what it does from in that location.
CPU-NB - 2400 MAX for everyday use/stability and know volting upwardly the CPU-NB will brand the chip run a little warmer and an FX runs warm enough already.
Voltage across ane.2v's for that isn't needed, if that much really to get 2400 from information technology.
RAM - 1600 is most the average norm but 1866 is doable for many FX setups. However anything beyond 1600 itself isn't guaranteed so don't be suprised if it comes up short going for 1866.
Do Not set Digi settings /ability settings beyond "Motorcar" or 100% - It's not required to get 4.0 and will make the chip and VRM's to it run hotter.
